SHARON BELSHAW

Previously, having worked within Mental Health in a Community Outreach setting and also as a Special Constable with Strathclyde Police, both of these posts have given me an insight and understanding to other people's distress, this is what has drawn to me to pursue a career in Counselling.

I am trained in the Person Centred approach to counselling, however I also integrate motivational interviewing into my practice. This helps me to be able to work both long and short term with clients.

Experience

I have 4 years experience practising within in a school setting working with adolescents aged 11 to 18. This includes working as part of a multi disciplined approach with other agencies.

I have 5 years practise experience, working as part of a Mental Health Charity, Counselling in clinics and GP practices with adults who are presenting a wide variety of issues.

I have also volunteered at a charity project both as a trainee and qualified counsellor where they had an open ended approach to counselling to meet clients individual needs.

Throughout these posts I have gained knowledge and experience in child protection issues, dealing with and monitoring risk and having the awareness when to refer on would be appropriate.
